The work assist vehicle has been in the Australian market for some time now. They are designed for use in small warehousing or retail shops where it allows an operator to travel, the length of an aisle while lifting themselves up to restock shelves.
You would have seen them at your local Bunnings store on a Saturday.
By their nature, they combine faster travel and a faster way for an operator to restock shelves at height.
As they make what can be a labor-intensive two-person job, a lot quick by cutting labor in half.
As well, it provides a safer way for the operator to lift heavy packages into place, than climbing up a ladder with a box.
Do I need a license to operate one?
No you do not. Work Assist Vehicles are designed under the EWP Standards AS 1415.
Essentially they are a version of an Elevated work platform and fall under the same licensing standard.
How high do they lift?
Depending on the make of the work assist vehicle they generally lift up to 5 meters.

Order pickers are mobile vehicles that elevate an operator to pick stock from themselves or racking in warehouses, store areas, or factories.

Yes, you do. In Australia, they are designed under the forklift standards AS 2359. As such a high-risk license to operate one. They are LO ticket classes under government regulations.
Beware the scam
Some equipment companies have tried to pass off a Low-Level Order picker as a work assist vehicle. They have very different Australian Design regulations and very different licensing laws to consider. Make sure you don’t get caught, do your research, and talk to many different suppliers before making your choice.
